ACC-Aerospace & Advanced Composites GmbH

Aerospace & Advanced Composites GmbH ("AAC") was founded as a spin-off from the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology in 2010. It is a private company that provides research, development and engineering capabilities in the fields of materials, technology and testing.

AAC integrates the personnel and the facilities of the former Aerospace Department of AIT and continues its aerospace research starting in 1989 with the ESA-certified “Space Materials Testhouse” under ESTEC frame contract. AAC is a coordinator of European and national research cooperation projects and networks in aeronautics and space and is in close cooperation with the association of the European aerospace research institutions.

AAC with its’ 20 years of history as department of the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT) and more than 10 years as SME, will contribute with its experience in space mechanisms, space standardisation, material testing and composite prototyping including all devices deemed necessary for the execution of this project.

Beside general space knowhow, AAC also will contribute with its more than 30 years’ experience in testing of materials for space applications, it’s special expertise in piezo based Process Monitoring and Structural Health Monitoring for aeronautics composite structures.

Role in the project and the expertise
we bring:

Namely the following tasks within this project will be covered by AAC:

  • Performance of static mechanical tests on metal joints and plastic sealing materials under cryogenic conditions (4K, 77K)

  • Performance of dynamic mechanical tests on metal joints and plastic sealing materials under cryogenic conditions (4K, 77K)

  • Design and setup of a multiaxial dynamic mechanical test bench under cryogenic conditions (77K)

  • Validation of the test bench on simple subcomponents
