Role in the project and the expertise
we bring:

HyCentA will advance the understanding and management of safety risks in liquid hydrogen storage and fuel supply systems through high-fidelity CFD and experimental validation. The main focus is on multiphase flow and deflagration/detonation processes in LH₂ venting lines, including phase change, hydrogen–air interaction and ignition behaviour. The models will be used to identify critical operating conditions and derive safety limits.

Controlled venting and deflagration/detonation tests at HyCentA’s Liquid Hydrogen Lab will provide the data required to validate the simulations. In parallel, HyCentA will test novel lightweight valves and integrated cold-box components under representative cryogenic conditions to demonstrate their functionality, system integration and safety performance.

These activities will improve predictive accuracy and provide validated design guidance for safer and lighter LH₂ systems.
